What does a community garden in a book have anything to do with our OMS garden?
Well, it does in many ways. It brought people who normally don't talk together. Another reason is both gardens made people work and get along better. Plus, the people realize even though we're all different we are still just people with feelings, emotions, and a past. Finally, we can all find at least one thing we like together, or have in common.
When the crops were ready to harvest everyone was happy and helpful. In both the book and our garden, we all learned new things about each other; for example, which foods some people like and don't like. Sir Francis Bacon once said, "God Almighty first planted a garden." The novel "Seedfolks" by Paul Fleischman is about a junk-filled, rat-ran vacant lot in Cleveland that was transformed into "Eden" an edible paradise. In our school garden, we transformed an empty grass filled terrace into a green veggie garden that the students enjoy.
